This course helped me understand that a system is not just a group of parts, but a set of interconnected elements working together with feedback loops, patterns, and often unintended consequences. When looking at planetary well-being, systems thinking is essential because environmental, social, and economic problems are all connected.

For example, climate change is not just an energy issue—it connects to food systems, transportation, consumption, inequality, and political decisions. One action in one part of the system can affect many others, sometimes in unexpected ways.

Systems thinking helps us look beyond symptoms to the root causes and design better, long-term solutions. It also teaches us to recognize leverage points—places in a system where small changes can lead to big results.

Understanding how systems work is key to improving the health of our planet and the well-being of all living things.
